Producing textiles from biopolymers in the Netherlands

The BioTex Fieldlab project based in Limburg, south Netherlands, is developing textile fibres from bio-based polymers, which can act as a replacement in products traditionally made from petroleum-based polymers. Research teams, large companies and SMEs have joined forces in the pilot lab to develop prototype clothing and apparel, carpets, home and technical textiles from a new range of biopolymers. The project is also developing an innovative network for R&D cooperation that is open to organisations not in the original consortium.

New section of Slovakia’s D3 motorway provides a bypass for Žilina

A section of Slovakia’s D3 motorway close to the city of Žilina in the north of the country has been built with EU funding. It is approximately 4.25 kilometres in length and part of the D1/D3 motorway transit route. This links the Slovak capital Bratislava with the city of Trenčín as well as with Žilina, and also provides an important international connection between Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

A unique cultural space for the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland

The project involved rebuilding the patio located in the most recently (1968) erected part of the building of a non-profit public higher education institution, the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland. Thanks to this new, unique space, it has been possible to significantly expand the cultural activities the academy offers to audiences ranging from preschool children to senior citizens.

A start-up company based in Lublin, Poland has developed a sophisticated remote diagnostics system which makes it possible to predict when industrial machinery will develop faults. Predictail received support from EU funding to improve and market-test its new product, which has now been launched for sale to a range of potential customers. Predictail’s system will help its users minimise maintenance costs, reduce accidents and shutdowns, thereby optimising production and operations.
