Kublai project helps innovators in southern Italy access development funds

The Kublai project aimed to reach out to creatives and innovators who, especially in certain geographical areas such as southern Italy, find it hard to access public resources to support their ideas and involve them in local development processes. To respond to this need, it created a web platform to engage with the wider creative community, many of whom had no previous experience with, or interest in making use of, public funding opportunities. Over the last seven years, the Kublai platform engaged with 586 different project proposals, more than half of which were successfully implemented.

At Méaulte, training means innovation thanks to IndustriLab, which brings together researchers and people working in industry

Supported by the Hauts-de-France region, the IndustriLab platform in Méaulte welcomes tens of partners. Large and small companies, universities, engineering schools, training centres, vocational schools, local authorities and the State all work together on innovative collaborative projects. Engineers and researchers test their innovations in real time in a virtual reality space. Large companies pool their equipment, which SMEs can use at a lower cost. High school students are trained in industrial boiler making and aeronautical design. There are six IndustriLab agents who coordinate the whole process.

Supporting smart mobility with RFID technology

By providing the financing to launch Kiunsys SRL., a spin-off company operating in the radio-frequency identification (RFID) and software development fields, this EU-funded project helped implement innovative updates in the Molise region’s urban mobility and logistics sector.

Ramazzano infant school made more energy efficient

An EU-funded project has increased the energy efficiency of the infant school at Ramazzano, near Perugia in the Italian region of Umbria. Upgrades to the three-storey building – which dates from the 1950s and has total floor space of 840 m² – included thermal insulation of the building envelope, which separates the interior and exterior of the structure. In addition, two heat pumps were integrated into the heating system and a solar energy plant with peak production capacity of 10 kilowatt hours was installed on the roof.

Tullamore’s Grand Canal Corridor rejuvenated with EU support

A project to improve the surroundings of a stretch of Ireland’s Grand Canal flowing through the town of Tullamore in County Offaly – part of the country’s Border, Midland and Western Region – has been completed with help from EU funding. The Tullamore Canal Corridor project includes laying of the foundations and construction of the superstructures of three accessible pedestrian bridges and a boardwalk alongside the canal
