The EU INFRASTRUCTURE project, QualityNano, is nearing completion and will hold its final conference on 15-17 July 2015 in Heraklion (Crete). The local host for the meeting is the FORTH institute. This conference is jointly organised with the EU-funded project NanoReg, which is already in its second year and addresses the crucial question of regulatory research in the nanosafety area.

Weather cladding and external wall panels made of flax, jute, and a resin from sugar cane waste? Yes indeed, if you want a durable, low-carbon solution… EU-funded researchers have developed innovative biocomposites based on such materials and demonstrated their potential in construction.
By 1 December 2014 the first 100 calls had closed. What can we tell about the popularity of the programme, the success of SMEs, the degree to which the programme has attracted newcomers - both as participants and as expert evaluators - the proportion of women experts and the speed with which contracts have been signed? It isn’t ‘Iron Man’, but European researchers in the Robo-Mate project are developing a robotic ‘exoskeleton’ to protect workers from injuries due to heavy and repetitive work. A first prototype has already been unveiled.
A faulty component or a worn-out machine can bring an entire manufacturing process to a crashing halt. And long before it actually breaks down, it can cause costly delays or defects. An innovative system developed by EU-funded researchers can help businesses to monitor crucial equipment and keep it in peak condition.
Timed to examine Government's post-election plans for UK science and innovation policy, and informed by the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee's inquiry on Priorities for science, this seminar will bring together key stakeholders from the academic community and R&D-intensive industries with policymakers.
Keynote address by Dr Jack Metthey, Director, Policy Development and Coordination: "Making the most of Horizon 2020 ‐ UK involvement in EU science programmes"
This year the theme for the conference is Global Outreach: Enabling Cultures and Diversity in Research Management and Administration. This theme reflects the growing need and ambition to reach out and get connected and work together globally. Cooperating not only in the field of scientific research & innovation and higher education but also in the field of research management and administration.
The Info Day is organised by the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking to provide full information on the 2015 Call for Proposals. The session will take place from 09:00 to 12:30 in the Charlemagne Building on June 26, Rue de la Loi 170, B-1000 Brussels. Get in touch with your future EU project partners! The French and UK National Contact Points for NMP and Enterprise Europe Network Pays de la Loire are organising a European Brokerage Event with the objectives to draw lessons from the first Horizon 2020 calls in 2014-2015 and anticipate the second round of calls for 2016-2017.
Tiny components of products such as smartphones can require manufacturing tolerances of a few nanometres. EU-funded research has led to a new generation of industrial measuring machines and commercial applications that strengthen the dominance of European SMEs in nano-metrology.
First Innovative Enterprise week “Access to Finance for Research, Innovation and SMEs 2015” is a 3-day international conference on:
- the political answer to the macroeconomic situation
- ways to boost growth, jobs and competitiveness through innovation, including the investment Plan for the EU
- how the financial instruments, facilities and accompanying measures launched under Horizon 2020 can enhance access to finance for research, innovation and SMEs
The first ten projects of the new Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), a partnership between the EU and industry, will get underway with a total of €50 million from Horizon 2020, the EU's research funding programme, and a further €28 million from the industry. This is thanks to the signature of the grant agreements finalised today (15 June 2015).
End of 2014 the first Horizon 2020 projects were signed. Since then almost four thousand more have been added.
The seventh EuroNanoForum is Europe’s largest networking conference on nanotechnologies and materials science, innovations and business. It will be showcasing the strength of integrating nanotechnologies and advanced materials with the other key enabling technologies, within the new approach of Horizon 2020 in its drive for competitiveness. ENF 2015 is organised as a part of the Latvian presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As announced by President Juncker on 13 May 2015, the European Commission intends to set up a new Scientific Advice Mechanism ("SAM"). The mechanism will support the Commission with high-quality, timely and independent scientific advice for its policy-making activities.
