Ultra Stable Lasers for Meteorology

Precision measurements of atmospheric conditions is a challenging but important task. One solution are laser based measurement systems. These enable precision wind velocity measurements for wind shear detection and the optimization of wind farm turbines. In addition, greenhouse gas concentrations can be measured from satellite based laser systems.

 
EU supports clean tech company in Estonia with €12 million

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €12 million to Estonian manufacturer Elcogen for bringing its highly-efficient fuel cell technology to the mass market. The loan is provided under InnovFin Energy Demonstration Projects, a joint initiative of the EIB Group and the European Commission, which supports research and innovation to transform the energy systems in Europe.

 
Prize on Material for Clean Air announced today in Vienna

A ceramic honeycomb air filter developed by a research team from Corning SAS, France, has won the EU Horizon Prize on Materials for Clean Air. The European Commission announced the winner of the €3 million award, funded under the EU’s research and innovation programme, today.

EIT Climate-KIC wants to boost industrial symbiosis in Europe

EIT Climate-KIC teamed up with five partners to build partnerships between industries to use production wastes as resources. The new platform, SCALER has been launched to help industrial sites work together to share and reuse resources and raw materials, with the objective of reducing industrial emissions and boosting economic prosperity. Under the European Union’s Horizon2020 initiative, the project will also develop a set of best practices and recommendations.

For the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the Commission today proposed €100 billion for research and innovation. The new programme – Horizon Europe – will build on the achievements and success of the previous research and innovation programme (Horizon 2020) and keep the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation. Commission proposes biggest ever investment for a R&I programme in Europe

Today the Commission presented its long-term budget proposal for the 2021-2027 period. Building on the success of the EU's past flagship research and innovation programmes, the Commission proposes to increase investment in research and innovation by allocating €114.8 billion from the future long-term EU budget.
