The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) is coming in October, and we would like to invite you to join our sessions. 

On 9 October, from 16:30 to 17:30 CET, Eurostat will be hosting a collaborative workshop: Charting the course: Navigating competitiveness and convergence for Europe's regions. 

This workshop brings together experts from Eurostat, the Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to analyse and discuss the EU's efforts in balancing competitiveness with convergence.

OECD will kick off the workshop by presenting an overview of global trends in competitiveness and economic convergence, with focus on productivity trends and differences across regions. 

Following, Eurostat will explore the latest statistical data and analysis, showcasing recent trends in economic convergence within the EU by incorporating metrics that go beyond GDP - such as quality of life, access to services, and digital inclusion. Eurostat will illustrate the progress made over the past two decades, particularly in the wake of the EU's eastern enlargement.

Finally, JRC will provide insights on the interaction between economic and demographic change. Based on the latest trends, it will show how different types of regions, including urban, rural, metropolitan and remote regions, are likely to evolve in the coming decades.
