„Investitionen in die allgemeine und berufliche Bildung sowie in die Forschung sind die besten Investitionen in die Zukunft Europas. Jedes Jahr ermöglichen es das EU-Programm für lebenslanges Lernen (Erasmus, Leonardo Da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig) und die Marie-Curie-Maßnahmen, dass über 400 000 Menschen im Ausland studieren, arbeiten, sich als Freiwillige engagieren oder forschen. Diese Erfahrung stärkt ihre Kompetenzen, ihre persönliche Entwicklung und erhöht ihre Berufschancen. Dies kann auch bei der Bewältigung der Krise helfen".

Commissioner Vassiliou was guest of honour at the 25th anniversary Friends of Music concert organised by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) on15 May. The event, held at the European Parliament, featured performances by British chart-topper Joss Stone and Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu.
