"Investir dans les domaines de l'éducation, de la formation et de la recherche c'est garantir l'avenir de l'Europe. Chaque année, le programme européens d’éducation et de formation tout au long de la vie (Erasmus, Leonardo Da Vinci, Comenius, Grundtvig) et les actions "Marie Curie" permettent à plus de 400 000 personnes d'étudier, de travailler, de faire du bénévolat ou de participer à la recherche à l'étranger. Cette expérience améliore leurs compétences, leur développement personnel et leur chance dans la recherche d'un emploi. Ils contribuent ainsi à surmonter la crise."

Commissioner Vassiliou was guest of honour at the 25th anniversary Friends of Music concert organised by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) on15 May. The event, held at the European Parliament, featured performances by British chart-topper Joss Stone and Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu.

La politique de la jeunesse de l’Union européenne est-elle à la hauteur dans le climat économique et social difficile que nous connaissons aujourd’hui? L’Union européenne peut-elle faire plus pour aider les organisations sportives à lutter contre le dopage? Le partenariat transatlantique de commerce et d’investissement proposé entre l’UE et les États-Unis aura-t-il une incidence sur l’engagement de l’UE en faveur de la diversité culturelle? Treize films soutenus par le programme MEDIA de l’Union Européenne pour le cinéma seront projetés au 66e Festival international du film de Cannes (15-26 mai), et notamment sept films en compétition pour la prestigieuse Palme d'Or.
