The workshop took place on Friday 16 October and asked the following question: “how will the Partnership’s Action Plan address the role of cities in protecting citizens and building cities’ resilience?”
Security in Public Spaces
From June 2019 to July 2020, JPI Urban Europe organised a series of AGORA Stakeholder activities with the aim to unfold the dilemmas of public space development and maintenance. The outcome was this report which breaks down the complexity and provides an entry point to address dilemmas of urban public spaces.
The Partnership on Security in Public Spaces and Culture/Cultural Heritage continued their work despite difficulties related to Covid-19, and are about to launch the Public Feedback on their Action Plans! The Partnerships want to hear the voice of cities and regions on the Actions they have developed. Stay tuned on Futurium and Twitter!
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is perhaps the biggest crisis of our time. Besides public health, the crisis also implicates the urban dimension and security in public spaces. As more countries, regions and cities are in lockdown, the way we use and organise our public and private spaces changes rapidly.
The European Week of Regions and Cities 2019 gave us a chance to have a chat with Andrea Luccaroni, from the Unione della Romagna Faentina, on the work of the six northern-Italian municipalities towards the development of a common, integrated strategy on security.

"The main objective is to actively contribute to the elaboration of an integrated urban security policy at EU level." Andrea Luccaroni tells why Romagna Faentina, a union of six Italian neighbouring municipalities, joined the partnership on Security in Public Spaces.
The training will concentrate on introducing a holistic approach to physical security, including examples and best practices on applications in the urban layout.

The project Protect Allied Cities against TErrorism in Securing Urban aReas - PACTESUR has been officially launched.
On 25 January 2019, the kick-off meeting of the Partnership for Security in Public Spaces took place in Paris, France. Nicolaas Beets, Dutch Special Urban Envoy, opened the meeting. He presented the process leading to the Pact of Amsterdam and the design of the Urban Agenda for the EU.
