On 16 September, on the occasion of World Cleanup Day, people around the world united to clean up their parks, streets, and beaches. In Europe, the EU Beach Cleanup 2023 campaign culminated on this date. The map shows the median number of cigarette related litter items per beach per year along 100 m segments of the European beaches.

Marine Natura 2000 sites

At EU level, two directives, the 1979 Birds Directive and the 1992 Habitats Directive, are the foundation of biodiversity policy. Together, these directives led to the establishment of the Natura 2000 network, a network of core breeding and resting sites for rare and threatened species and some rare natural habitat types which are protected in their own right. The Natura 2000 network stretches across 18% of the EUโ€™s land area and more than 8% of its marine territory. The Map of the month shows the network of marine Natura 2000 sites across Europe.

 
European Blue Forum - 2nd Deep Dive Workshop "What does a fossil-fuel-free blue economy look like? How can we as a community support this transition?" - REGISTRATION IS OPEN

The objective of the โ€˜Deep-Diveโ€™ workshop is to allow members of the European Blue Forum to discuss the challenges and obstacles they are facing, their unique aspirations and requirements in developing their sector up to 2030. The output from this workshop will be the production of a stakeholder position paper, providing the perspectives of the entire European sustainable blue economy stakeholder group - our Blue Community.
