Maritime surveillance: Joining forces with Member States for safer seas and oceans

The European Commission today took a further step towards more effective and cost-efficient surveillance of European Seas. By bringing together surveillance data from civil and military authorities like coast guards, navies, traffic monitoring, environmental and pollution monitoring, fisheries and border control, duplication of work can be avoided and savings of up to €400 million per year can be made.

 
Integrated Maritime Policy: further progress towards sustainable maritime development

The European Commission has adopted the second Progress report on the EU's 2007 Integrated Maritime Policy. By facilitating the cooperation of all maritime players across sectors and borders, and by avoiding duplication of spending and efforts, the Integrated Maritime Policy has enhanced the sustainable development of the European maritime economy, while contributing to a better protection of the marine environment.

Integrated maritime surveillance: The 'MARSUNO' pilot project delivered final results

Nine northern Member States together with Norway, and the Russian Federation under Swedish leadership finalised the 'MARSUNO' pilot project initiated by the European Commission. These partners make a number of recommendations for overcoming the hurdles to creating a Common Information Sharing Environment ('CISE') for the surveillance of the EU maritime domain.
