The Commission together with EU consumer authorities are taking the necessary steps to avoid this and similar situations from happening again in future.

Today, the European Commission publishes its third Report on the right of EU citizens to vote and stand as candidates in municipal elections when they live in another EU Member State, taking stock of how such “mobile” citizens have exercised these rights since 2012, and pointing the way to improving knowledge of their democratic participation, informing and raise awareness of this right among citizens, making voting easier as a process, and engaging with stakeholders to help achieve this.

Despite repeated efforts, for almost two years, to engage the Polish authorities in a constructive dialogue in the context of the Rule of Law Framework, the Commission has today concluded that there is a clear risk of a serious breach of the rule of law in Poland.

Violence against Women and Girls is one of the most widespread and devastating human rights violations across the globe. It is estimated that one in three women have experienced violence at some point in their lives. That is why, last year, on the International Day to Combat Violence against Women, Věra Jourová, European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality launched the initiative to dedicate 2017 to combating violence against women.
