The prize, run as part of the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot funded under Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation programme, will award €10 million to an innovative, commercially viable and low-cost solution to launch light satellites. It will contribute to the objectives of the Commission’s Space Strategy for Europe, which aims at reinforcing Europe's autonomy in accessing space and at encouraging the development of the space market.

For the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the Commission today proposed €100 billion for research and innovation. The new programme – Horizon Europe – will build on the achievements and success of the previous research and innovation programme (Horizon 2020) and keep the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation. Horizon Europe is the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever.
This publication is the final report of a study that contributed to the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020. It collected information and data on the overall development of synergies between Horizon 2020 and European Structural and Investment Funds. The study provided evidence that there is a legal basis for synergies in place and that there are overall implementation guidelines for all the institutional synergy actors involved.

The European Commission will support 79 innovative projects under the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot to bring their innovations faster onto the market. In total, the projects are to receive €146.173 million under the SME Instrument (Phase 2) and Fast Track to Innovation strands of the EIC pilot. At the beginning of May, the European Commission announced a proposed budget of €100 billion for the next EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme, called Horizon Europe (2021-2027).
375 proposals have been submitted under the first Horizon 2020 Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Open call of the European Innovation Council Pilot, that closed on 16 May, for an available budget of 123.7 million EUR.

Today the Commission presented its long-term budget proposal for the 2021-2027 period. Building on the success of the EU's past flagship research and innovation programmes, the Commission proposes to increase investment in research and innovation by allocating €114.8 billion from the future long-term EU budget.
