The Polish National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the EU and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) are organising an ‘EIT Awareness Day’ in Warsaw, with the aim to raise awareness of the EIT Community, its activities and, in particular, of cooperation opportunities among relevant national stakeholders. Celebrating a touch of genius, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announces the 41 nominees for the EIT Awards 2018. All across Europe, excellence is accelerating, with women entrepreneurs making up more than 40% of the nominees. The Awards ceremony will be held in Budapest on 4 October during the EIT’s annual Innovation Forum, INNOVEIT. The 41 nominees represent the most promising entrepreneurs and innovators in Europe. Fast-track your business with the EIT RawMaterials Accelerator Programme

EIT RawMaterials launches its first Accelerator Programme. This is a call for start-ups that consider they already have an innovative offering (at TRL4-6) and see the opportunity in rapidly developing this offering to the exploration, mining, mineral processing, metal, mineral and steel making and recycling industries as well as their suppliers of equipment and tools. EIT InnoEnergy supported start-up CorPower raises €8.2 million for full scale demonstration

EIT InnoEnergy supported start-up CorPower Ocean has recently announced an investment of 8.2M€ from the Swedish Energy Agency to commercialise the technology at full scale. After 18 months of testing and final verification of survival and power generation in Scotland, CorPower has indeed proven that its technology can produce electricity at a competitive cost. Commissioner Moedas presents Horizon Europe to the largest science meeting on the continent

Today marks the beginning of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF2018) in Toulouse. This is the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe that brings together over 4000 delegates from 80 countries. At this event Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, will deliver a keynote speech on Horizon Europe, the new EU research and innovation programme proposed for 2020-2027.

Europe must deepen its innovation edge, scoreboard shows

The Commission's 2018 European Innovation Scoreboard published today shows that the EU's innovation performance continues to improve, but further efforts are needed to ensure Europe's global competitiveness. This year's edition reveals a positive trend in the majority of EU countries – most notably in Malta, the Netherlands, and Spain, with Sweden remaining the EU innovation leader.

EIT Climate-KIC wants to boost industrial symbiosis in Europe

EIT Climate-KIC teamed up with five partners to build partnerships between industries to use production wastes as resources. The new platform, SCALER has been launched to help industrial sites work together to share and reuse resources and raw materials, with the objective of reducing industrial emissions and boosting economic prosperity. Under the European Union’s Horizon2020 initiative, the project will also develop a set of best practices and recommendations.

 
EIT InnoEnergy plays pivotal role within the European Battery Alliance

The European Battery Alliance (EBA) was launched by European Commission Vice President, Maroš Šefčovič to allow all Europeans to benefit from safer traffic, less polluting vehicles and more advanced technological solutions, while creating a competitive sustainable battery cell manufacturing value chain in Europe. EIT InnoEnergy is proud to be instrumental in achieving this European ambition, and ready to be a driving force behind the actions identified.

 
Commission proposes most ambitious Research and Innovation programme so far

For the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the Commission today proposed €100 billion for research and innovation. The new programme – Horizon Europe – will build on the achievements and success of the previous research and innovation programme (Horizon 2020) and keep the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation. Horizon Europe is the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever.

 
EIT RawMaterials: U-START call on circular economy

The call for the joint EIT RawMaterials and Veolia incubator programme is now open. U-START's ambition is to accelerate the time to market of innovative concepts through the support of EIT RawMaterials and Veolia in a “co-creation” mode. To be considered for the start-up program, you have to prove a societal and environmental benefit of your concept in the following three to five years. Apply before 22 June 2018.

European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen visits EIT Digital Silicon Valley hub and discusses Europe’s AI Strategy

EIT Digital welcomed Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness in their Silicon Valley Hub. This meeting further developed interactions between Europe and US technology and innovation scenes, including the local European footprint and exchange on key topics such as artificial intelligence, future of work, regulations and digital single market.

 
Commission proposes biggest ever investment for a R&I programme in Europe

Today the Commission presented its long-term budget proposal for the 2021-2027 period. Building on the success of the EU's past flagship research and innovation programmes, the Commission proposes to increase investment in research and innovation by allocating €114.8 billion from the future long-term EU budget.
