Governments, as public buyers, have an important leverage power in stimulating the demand for sustainable goods and services. Green procurement and ESG investments stand out as a central component in the goal of respecting ecological ambitions and achieving objectives such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to renewable energy, and further developing the circular economy. Since ESG investments are currently undergoing an important expansion. It is therefore important that ETV stakeholders keep a close eye on these developments.
The Commission adopted a Communication setting out its work on ensuring compliance with EU law, so that citizens and businesses can benefit from the same rights across the EU.
ETV continues to monitor major environmental policy decisions that will shape it’s landscape such as: the Sustainable Products Initiative (SPI), the extended scope of the 2009 Ecodesign Directive, and the digital Product Passport. These policy decisions and initiatives are crucial to the future of the environment. When faced with an environmental problem, environmental technological innovations such as those promoted by EU ETV are essential.
Over the course of this one-day event held both in Brussels and online on June 1st 2022, ETV stakeholders were brought together to share views on the scheme, advise the European Commission on its implementation, and contribute to its evaluation and way forward. The format was based on a series of keynote presentations, followed by panel discussions and debate.
The European Business and Nature Summit (EBNS) 2022 is at the doorstep! The Summit will attract more than 300 delegates from business, finance, government, academia and civil society next 18 and 19 October in Brussels. It will be an important milestone in the road to the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in December 2022 and will strengthen the European "Business for Biodiversity movement". The Finance@Biodiversity Community convened on 13 September to progress on defining and assessing positive biodiversity impact during an online workshop. This workshop was the second out of a series of three workshops on positive impact, and built on the results of the 23 June session. Slides and summary of the workshop are now available online!
After the first webinar in May, the three September webinars focused on nine case studies from different industries and sectors. Building on these case studies, the European Business@Biodiversity Platform has refined its ‘working definition’ of nature positive in a business context.
