Following a successful Milan edition in 2023, the European Business and Nature Summit will reconvene in 2025 to catalyse transformative actions that businesses to transition towards a nature-positive society. The EU Business and Biodiversity Platform, as lead organiser of the Summit, aims to announce the location and date of the 2025 Summit edition in this newsletter towards the end of 2024. Mark your calendars on September 19th, 2024, for the European Business & Biodiversity Forum organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature with the support of the European Business & Biodiversity Platform.

The year 2024 builds on the existing momentum on biodiversity and calls for growing transformative action from business. The EU Business and Biodiversity Platform welcomes the organization of the second edition of the EU Business and Biodiversity Forum led by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Brussels on September 19th. The event organised by WWF will be essential to explore the key role of businesses in the changing international and European context and at the upcoming UN biodiversity conference, COP 16. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with experts, pioneering companies, and peers who are shaping the future of biodiversity action.

 
Horizon Europe 2023-24 programme supports Zero Pollution

On 6 December, the European Commission adopted the Horizon Europe work programme 2023-24, announcing €13.5 billion investment for research and innovation action, with the first calls for proposals on Zero Pollution now being open.

European Natura 2000 Award is open for applications until 30 September!

Natura 2000 is a Europe-wide netwrok of over 27,800 nature conservation areas. It covers almost a fifth of Europe’s land area and nearly 10% of the surounding seas. The European Natura 2000 Award honours conservation achievements and rewards excellence in the management and promotion of the Natura 2000 network.

Public consultation on past, present & future of European R&I Framework Programmes: 2014-27

On 1 December, the Commission launched the largest public consultation ever held on the past, present and future of the EU's Horizon research and innovation programmes 2014-2027. It is open for 12 weeks and contributes to the final evaluation of Horizon 2020, the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe, and lays the groundwork for preparation of the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-27. The survey is still open for a few more days and Zero Pollution Stakeholders are welcome to provided their feedback at the link:

 
Business for Nature policy consultation - Deadline extended until 26 November

Business for Nature invites businesses from all sectors, geographies, and of all sizes to respond to a policy consultation and share their views on: 1) Reducing negative direct impacts; 2) The role to be played by SMEs; 3) Addressing environmentally harmful subsidies; 4) Mechanisms to incentivize sustainable use and penalise negative impacts; and 5) Legislation on deforestation and conversion free supply chains.

The Biodiversity Action Plan Monitoring Tool (BAP-Monitor) aims to guide actions to regenerate biodiversity through examples of targets, measures and methods for gathering data, simple scoring system, statistics and graphics.

 
How can Green Public Procurement accelerate the decarbonization of construction materials?

Joint interview with Jai Krishna from European Environmental Bureau and Tudor Cherhat from the Environmental Coalition on Standards. Mr. Krishna works with the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) as Zero Pollution Industry expert and is focussing on scaling the demand for green steel and low carbon cement demand in public procurement. Mr. Cherhat is a programme manager at Environmental Coalition on Standards (ECOS), overseeing campaign and promotion efforts focused on GPP for buildings and construction materials.
