The European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement in December on a new law to make all batteries placed on the EU market more sustainable, circular and safe. The rules will support EU's energy transition and competitive industry.
Today marks the opening of the negotiations to reach a 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 that will shape policies for biodiversity by 2030 and beyond. Following the European Business and Nature Summit, the EU B@B Platform will be present at COP15 to further strengthen the ‘business for biodiversity movement’ and call on an ambitious outcome. Today, the Align project is publishing recommendations bringing more clarity on ‘what’ elements of biodiversity to measure and ‘how’ to assess impacts and dependencies on biodiversity in a business context. This document provides the technical basis to support many evolving policies and standards and foster harmonization of natural capital accounting within Europe and beyond.
In December, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement on a new EU law on deforestation-free supply chains, just 12 months after the Commission's proposal.
This month, the Commission has adopted a revised EU Action Plan to put an end to illegal wildlife trade, as announced in the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. Also at the world wildlife conference CITES COP19, the EU helped achieve key outcomes that will bring sustainable trade in more than 500 newly listed species.
