Experts wanted for EIC Advisory Board (06/05/2019)

In June 2019 new European Innovation Council pilot calls will open with the possbility to ask for blended finance in addition to a grant. The European Commission will appoint 15 to 20 innovation leaders to an EIC Advisory Board to oversee the EIC pilot, prepare the future EIC and champion the EIC globally. Innovators from across the ecosystem are invited to come forward by 10 May.

Apply for the Euronext TechShare Programme 2019 (06/05/2019)

Interested in what’s happening within the capital markets in the coming 18-36 months? Apply to the next edition of TechShare Euronext’s educational programme targeted towards CEOs of small businesses keen to learn more about capital markets. Euronext is now in the process of selecting the candidates for the next edition, starting in September 2019. The deadline to apply is the 5 June 2019.

277 innovators selected for funding under EIC’s SME Instrument (06/05/2019)

A total of 277 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form 25 countries have been selected for funding under the latest round of the SME Instrument, in the so-called Phase 1 of the programme. The companies will receive a total amount of €13.7 million to share between their projects to get their innovations faster on the market.

13 FTI projects selected to get a total of €33 million (06/05/2019)

The European Commission is awarding €33.12 million to bring innovative ideas to market quicker. The 13 benefitting projects, involving 54 partners in 17 countries, will receive around €2 million each for the Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) under the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot.

EIC Investor Day: Empowering women innovators (06/05/2019)

On 4 April, 33 innovative companies led by women and funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot met for an EIC Investor Day in Brussels to promote the access of women entrepreneurs to finance. In addition to panel discussions with investors and plenty of networking, 12 innovative companies got to pitch in front of investors.

EIC pilot and EDP promote matchmaking day for energy innovators (06/05/2019)

The European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot and EDP organised a matchmaking day for startups and scaleups working in the energy sector. On 26 March, a total of 29 entrepreneurs had the chance to pitch their solutions and engage in bilateral meetings with corporate representatives in Lisbon.

XpectralTEK's technology fights diseases in vineyards (06/05/2019)

In the late 19th century the phylloxera epidemic destroyed most of the vineyards in Europe. Since then many techniques have been tried to avoid such a cataclysm, ranging from burying a live toad under the vine to chemical treatments to the plant. XpectralTEK has developed a multispectral imaging technology that can predict plagues and diseases in vineyards. The technology is now being tested with Vinho Verde producers from the Minho region of Portugal.

Innovative bioprinting company CELLINK is on a strong growth curve (06/05/2019)

Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, CELLINK is developing bioprinting technology with a focus on making it easy to use for non-experts. Founded in 2016, Cellink went straight to an IPO on Nasdaq First North that year, raising €360,000 (SEK 3.7M). In 2018 the company received a Phase 2 grant from the EIC pilot SME Instrument of € 2.4 million.

EIC "Accelerator" calls will open in June 2019 (03/04/2019)

In June the EIC SME Instrument will become the “EIC accelerator”. Under the “accelerator” funding companies will be able to access blended financing (grants and equity) of up to €15 million. The Commission will appoint 15 to 20 innovation leaders to an EIC Advisory Board to oversee the EIC pilot, prepare the future EIC, and champion the EIC globally. Innovators from across the ecosystem are invited to come forward by 10 May.

68 top class innovators get €120 million from EIC SME Instrument (03/04/2019)

68 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form 19 countries have been selected for funding under the latest round of the European Innovation Council’s SME Instrument strand. Projects selected include a blockchain-based online payment technology, next generation loudspeakers, a quantum dot material technology for energy efficient screens and many others.

Corporate Day with Saint-Gobain (03/04/2019)

The European Innovation Council(EIC) pilot in collaboration with Saint-Gobain is promoting a matchmaking event in Paris on 22-23 May. Companies funded by the EIC pilot and working in advanced materials and innovative manufacturing technologies are invited to pitch their business ideas and unlock growth opportunities. Applications are open until 7 April.

EIC pilot entrepreneurs and Orange Labs make business (03/04/2019)

On 14 March, the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot and Orange promoted an exclusive matchmaking event. 16 companies funded by the EIC SME Instrument had the opportunity to pitch their business cases and meet with corporate representatives at the Orange Labs in Paris.

Voice-control SoapBox Labs is working with Microsoft (03/04/2019)

The European Innovation Council pilot's funded technology company SoapBox Labs has teamed up with Microsoft to bring its child focused speech recognition software to the tech giant’s Azure platform. The company will see its tech deployed in a school pilot programme to prove it has a global, scalable product.

A new take on aircraft interiors could make production cheaper and cleaner (03/04/2019)

To meet the strict fire and weight requirements for aircraft interiors, the current solution is to use a fire-resistant composite made of phenolic resin with glass fibre reinforcement. But phenolic parts have many drawbacks. IntAir has found a greener, cheaper and safer alternative to the toxic materials that are currently used.​

16 EIC pilot funded companies compete at European Venture Contest Final (12/12/2018)

After a thorough application process, 16 companies funded by the EIC pilot and working on disruptive solutions in Healthtech or Digital Technologies have been selected to present their innovations online on 15 November in front of a expert jury. The best companies in each of the two online sessions - 8 companies will pitch at each session - secure a spot at the European Venture Contest Final, on 10-11 December, in Düsseldorf.

Sensius wins EBAN scale-Up of the month pitch (08/11/2018)

In May 2018, the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot’s funded company Sensius won the first EBAN-EASME Scaleup of the Month. As the winner of the ePitch, Sensius was invited to pitch at the EBAN Winter Summit. Two weeks ago in Luxembourg at EBAN’s (the European Business Angel Network) Winter Summit, Sensius stole the show by winning the Pitching Contest.

Varjo raises €27m to launch its VR (08/11/2018)

Virtual reality resolution is still very far from human-eye resolution. Or at least it used to be. EIC-funded start-up Varjo just raised a €27m private financing for its new technology, which is able to reproduce the level of detail of human sight in virtual reality (VR) products.

From the 1800 companies that were considered two SME Instrument-funded companies Billon and Monese make it to the list of 50 hottest fintech companies in Europe. Both companies use blockchain technology to fight financial exclusion.

SME Instrument companies envision the future of healthcare with Roche (05/07/2018)

On 16 June, the Business Accelerations Services team travelled with sixteen SME Instrument funded companies selected to present their visions for the future of healthcare to Roche corporate representatives at the company's Digital Innovation Lab in Basel, Switzerland. Following a jury vote, three of the companies were selected to take on the main stage at Roche's annual Innovation Summit the next day.​

242 innovators selected for funding under EIC’s SME Instrument (05/07/2018)

A total of 242 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form 30 countries have been selected for funding under the latest round of the SME Instrument, in the so-called Phase 1 of the programme.
