European Innovation Council - SME Instrument

Four years after the start of the programme each €1 invested by the SME Instrument generated €1.6 of private investment. But the SME Instrument strong leverage effect doesn’t stop here. We project that by January 2022 every € 1 invested will attract € 4.8 of private investment. Promising, isn’t it? Here’s how we calculate it.

On 25 and 26 June, selected companies funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot had the opportunity to present their vision for the future and cutting-edge innovations in the field of renewable energy at the Enel Innovation Hub&Lab in Catania.

A total of 242 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form 30 countries have been selected for funding under the latest round of the SME Instrument, in the so-called Phase 1 of the programme. The companies will receive a total amount of €11.95 million to share between their projects to get their innovations faster on the market.

The European Commission received 216 proposals for Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) before the latest cut-off date on 31 May 2018.

European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot is promoting a networking event with SUEZ. The event will take place in the Museu Agbar de les Aigües in Barcelona on 14 and 15 November. Companies funded under the EIC pilot are invited to apply until 29 August.

On 16 June, the Business Accelerations Services team travelled with sixteen SME Instrument funded companies selected to present their visions for the future of healthcare to Roche corporate representatives at the company's Digital Innovation Lab in Basel, Switzerland. Following a jury vote, three of the companies were selected to take on the main stage at Roche's annual Innovation Summit the next day.​

On 25 and 26 June, 18 selected SME Instrument companies presented their vision for the future of sustainable and renewable energy, and networked with Enel representatives, in the Enel Innovation Hub in Catania, Italy.

Last 13 and 14 June, 96 SME Instrument companies had the opportunity to present their business cases and network with some of Europe’s largest corporates at the InQBet accelerator, Procter and Gamble’s Innovation Center in Brussels. 10 companies took the gold.

On 18 June, in Basel - Switzerland, a selected number of SME Instrument companies working on Mobile Health, Future Diagnostics, Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation and Machine Learning presented their business cases to Roche and competed for a chance to take on the main stage at the annual Roche Innovation Summit.

Single-use plastic has become part of our everyday lives. In the EU alone, we collectively use 100 billion bags per year, or over 70 bags per person per year. That is a huge amount, considering the significant part that ends up in our oceans.

On 9 July, selected companies funded under the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot will present their ideas for the future of cities and infrastructure to French building and civil engineering group VINCI at Leonard, VINCI'S new innovation and foresight platform in Paris.

Applications are open until 10 July for all EIC SME Instrument companies that wish to showcase their innovations to chemical giant Solvay. The networking event will take place on 16 October in Brussels, Belgium.
