European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani, in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship, met Uruguay's President José Mújica Cordano in Santiago de Chile yesterday. In their meeting, Vice-President Tajani and President Mújica dealt with the importance of industry for economic growth. Tajani and Mújica agreed to co-operate in four specific areas: naval construction, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and veterinary medicine, by boosting the involvement of European companies in these sectors in Uruguay.

Tajani is in Chile from 10 to 11 March to represent the European Commission in the inauguration of Michelle Bachelet, who won the presidential election and run-off of 17 November and 15 December 2013.
