In a blog post, Thierry Van der Pyl, Director "Excellence in Science" at the European Commission, highlights significant milestones passed by both FET Flagship projects. At the end of March the Human Brain Project (HBP) consortium released the first version of its six ICT Platforms. The Graphene Flagship started a new operational phase under Horizon 2020. At a kick-off seminar, 6 Partnering Projects for HBP and 13 for the Graphene Flagship are being presented.
The Human Brain Project (HBP) is planning an online release event (30 March) to present the first components, services and tools of its six ICT Platforms to the scientific community (platforms on Neuroinformatics, Brain Simulation, High Performance Analytics and Computing, Medical Informatics, Neuromorphic Computing and Neurorobotics.) There will be a live stream via AdobeConnect Webcast. More info will be made available on the HBP website in due course.

The Graphene Flagship's overriding goal is to take graphene, related layered materials and hybrid systems from a state of raw potential to a point where they can revolutionise multiple industries. The Flagship is looking for new industrial partners that bring in specific industrial and technology transfer competences or capabilities that complement the present Flagship consortium. Call topics are on "Magnetic sensors" and "Functional Foams and Coatings". Deadline 22 Feb 2016.
The FET Proactive call "Boosting emerging technologies" of the FET Work Programme 2016-2017 has 3 topics: "Emerging themes and communities" (deadline April 2016, check more information below); "FET ERANET Cofund in Quantum Technologies" (deadline April 2016);"FET ERANET Cofund" (to be opened for proposals submission in September 206).
There is also a dedicated call for proposals on High Performance Computing (which will be opened for proposals submission in April 2016).
Earth observation data and information are vital to allow decision-makers and society in general to take informed decisions about climate, energy, food security, natural hazards, health and other societal challenges. These challenges are complex, interrelated, cross-border in nature and interdependent at the global scale and therefore coordination is essential to avoid duplication of efforts and reduce observational gaps.
In the face of this ongoing epidemic that has already claimed too many lives, and for which there is still no cure, the Commission remains at the forefront in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This is done for example through funding research and innovation via Horizon 2020 where € 73 million have already been invested during the first two years of the programme.
