We are excited to announce that the Business & Biodiversity Platform’s most recent work, the Thematic Report on Biodiversity Disclosure was launched in April. This report provides a detailed comparative analysis on the biodiversity-related disclosure requirements or recommendations of ESRS E4, TNFD, and GRI 101, and provides additional details on SFDR and Article 29 (France) reporting.

Update on the Finance and Biodiversity Overview of initiatives for financial institutions (19/01/2024)
The momentum behind biodiversity is growing among financial institutions, and so is the number of communities, networks and initiatives dedicated to this topic. This overview of biodiversity-related initiatives for financial institutions is a resource meant to help financial institutions understand the latest biodiversity-related initiatives out there - who is doing what, where and when. Launched in April 2021 by the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation, UNEP FI, the PRI, and the Business & Biodiversity Platform, this report is updated yearly. The most recent update covers nineteen initiatives, outlining activities planned for the 2023-2024 period. It provides an overview of the nineteen initiatives, the topics they address and their level of collaboration for each topic. In addition, a fact sheet for each initiative is also included.
The EU Business and Biodiversity’s Sector Sprint Report 2023 – How to unlock nature-positive transformative change in the build sector (25/01/2024)
How to unlock nature-positive transformative change in the built environment? In 2023, the EUB&B Platform engaged with representatives from the built environment, investors, and policy makers to help identify transformative actions that can be taken at different levels to progress towards nature-positive models. The results of that engagement work are presented in a new publication, highlighting current drivers of change (technological, financial, political, etc.) to facilitate nature-positive business trajectories. The report looks, in particular, at the role of finance and policy as enablers of change and identifies next steps to scale up action.
The Finance for Biodiversity Foundation and the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform published the Third update of the Collaborative Engagements Overview (25/01/2024)
In the last few years, more and more financial institutions have started engaging with companies on biodiversity. By providing yearly updates, the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation and the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform want to help financial institutions to navigate the ever-changing landscape of collaborative biodiversity engagements. This overview points financial institutions to ongoing engagements that they can join, as well as directs them to information generated by past collaborative engagements. In this third update, nine new biodiversity-related collaborative engagements have been added.
Align bears fruit in shaping the future of biodiversity measurement approaching its final stretch (05/12/2023)
Join us in celebrating a significant milestone with Align, the European Commission-funded project led by WCMC Europe and the Capitals Coalition, with partners Arcadis, ICF, and UNEP-WCMC. Over the past 2 years, Align has emerged as a transformative actor in the biodiversity measurement landscape, fuelled by a diverse community of over 500 engaged stakeholders. The 'Recommendations for a standard on corporate biodiversity measurement and valuation', published during last year’s COP15, has become a crucial guide for businesses navigating the evolving landscape of biodiversity measurement bringing alignment to a divergent space. It has been developed along with Align's engaged community, which includes 100 proactive business practitioners and 120 technical experts working together to shape a standardized approach to biodiversity measurement and valuation.
As the project approaches its final stretch towards the summer of 2024, it has made available further guidance to help businesses to implement the recommendations at a site level, and across supply chains, as well as on how to assess ecosystem condition. Stay tuned to learn more about the next steps of Align in shaping the future of corporate biodiversity measurement practices. These include guidance on nature-positive, the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the integration of biodiversity into natural capital accounting and the identification of research, innovation and education needs to address biodiversity measurement challenges.
