Eurasian lynx to be reintroduced to German forest

Three orphaned Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) are scheduled to be released this summer in the biosphere reserve in the Palatinate region of southwest Germany. A further five lynx that were tagged in Switzerland will also be relocated to the Palatinate Forest.

Meet LIFE at the 2nd International Conference on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Engineering

The 2nd International Conference on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Engineering will be held at the University of Rome from 20-22 July 2016. The conference is being organised by the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (Portugal) and the University of Extremadura (Spain) with the objective of creating an international forum for academics and scientists to discuss issues relating to green chemistry and sustainable engineering.

Consumers at the Core of the Energy Union – Successful Approaches to Engagement for Sustainable Energy

The seminar will showcase different consumer engagement strategies and allow for best practice exchanges between stakeholders. The strategies to be presented cover different approaches to engaging private consumers, ranging from direct engagement of students via inter-dormitory competitions to consumer engagement via collectives and group purchasing. Practical knowledge will meet with academic insight on behavioural change, featuring feedback mechanisms, marketing appeals, and drivers of energy efficient behaviour.

 
How to Boost Energy Efficiency in Today's Buildings: International Perspectives

With Europe's Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) currently under review and a proposal for a new Directive expected in 2016, this event looks at how other parts of the world, especially Japan, South Korea and the US, are dealing with energy efficiency in existing buildings and what the EU can learn from these countries. Speakers from around the world will present their global perspectives.

 
Innovative Financing for Sustainable Energy in Practice

Financing sustainable energy investments is a key challenge for the EU's climate and energy strategy. This session will discuss how the EU is answering the needs of market actors through policy work, ongoing Horizon 2020 projects and European Investment Bank activities. After the session participants will be able to meet directly with EIB and EASME staff (for which registration in advance is recommended) to ask questions about funding opportunities for project development assistance.

 
Energy Efficiency: A Business Opportunity for SMEs

Whether by saving energy or by taking advantage of energy services offered by new business models, SMEs can improve their competitiveness. Recommendations to unlock long-term financing for energy efficiency in buildings, industry and SMEs, as published by the Energy Efficiency Financial Institution Group (EEFIG), will be presented. Measures to encourage SMEs to become more energy efficient will be highlighted in presentations from businesses (SMEs, including energy service companies) and other value chain actors (Chambers of Commerce and Industry, networks).

Earth observation: GEO European Projects Workshop 2016

Representatives from science, business and public administration will meet from 31 May to 2 June in Berlin for GEO European Projects Workshop 2016. Now in its 10th edition, the GEO European Projects Workshop 2016 will present and discuss European initiatives contributing to the Global Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS). Registration will open in mid-March.

 
Twitter chat on EU funding for environment projects - #askEASME

As part of this year's EU Green Week, the Executive Agency for SMEs is organising a twitter chat on EU funding for the environment on 31 May 10:00-11:30 CET. Experts will answer questions on funding opportunities for businesses, academia, public authorities and NGOs through the LIFE programme, Horizon 2020's Societal Challenge 'Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials' and the SME Instrument. Join the EU Green Week 2016 on "Investing for a greener future"

The 2016 edition of the Green Week will take place from 30 May to 3 June focussing on "investments for a greener future". Each day of the week will highlight a different aspect of this theme – from investments in greener cities to investing for future generations. Get involved, for example, by organising a partner event or an online activity during May and June.
