EMD 2022: a look back at MSP discussions in Ravenna

The European Maritime Day 2022 took place in May in Ravenna, and it was the opportunity to gather MSP stakeholders from across the EU and to work in multiple formats of workshops, online and hybrid, to share ideas and trigger new ones inclusing MSP. The EMD website provides an access to all sessions in video, a useful resource to explore.

 
MapSIS - a workshop looking at the future of MSP data

In 2017, the first Maritime Spatial Planning, Ecosystem Approach and Supporting Information Systems (MaPSIS 2017) International Conference took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. This July, MapSIS stakeholders are meeting to assess future monitoring programs and related indicators that will provide useful information on gaps and updates needed for the next cycle of MSP.

 
Estonian Maritime Spatial Plan adopted

The Estonian government has adopted the final maritime spatial plan on 12 May 2022. The plan regulates the activities of different areas, sets the principles of joint use and opens up perspectives for new uses of the sea.

 
MSP global International Guide now available in 4 languages

Officially launched during the final conference of the MSPglobal Initiative jointly led by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and European Commission, the International Guide on Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) is now available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic. News guidelines on unreliable economic operators

Now available in the Agency's manual of procedures (eMoP), the guidelines give an overview of the main contractual and administrative measures targeting persons or entities representing risks to the Union’s financial interests, including the Agency’s procedure for the registration of those unreliable economic operators in the Early Detection and Exclusion System (EDES).

 
Discussing energy efficiency financing in EU Member States

The European Commission organised more than 50 Sustainable Energy Investment Forums over the last few years in order to improve dialogue, co-operation and awareness, and to develop large-scale investment programmes mobilising private finance for investments in those sectors. First CEF grants signed in eGrants

A major milestone was achieved for CEF - the first 2 GAs (works for the Aurora line and implementation of Baltic synchronisation phase 2 under CEF Energy) were recently signed in the corporate IT solution. Kudos to everyone involved from Departments A and B as a lot of efforts has been put for the smooth transition from CEF1 to CEF2 using eGrants.

 
EMFF project meets MEPs to present achievements in sustainable small-scale fisheries

The project coordinator of STARFISH 4.0 recently met with MEPs Clara Aguilera and Grace O’Sullivan, along with DG MARE, to present their remarkable achievements. One of the main results is NEMO: an affordable, highly secure, simple ‘Plug and Fish’ vessel monitoring system for sustainable small-scale fisheries. The project has also been awarded the Best Category Project Award 2021 by the WestMED initiative.

Salary adjustment June 2022

As a result of the increasing high inflation, part of EU staff remuneration and pension updates takes place in June this year. The +2.4% updated value is reflected in your June payslip and retroactive as of January. An additional salary and pension indexation is expected in December.

Topics cover the development of low-emission pathways for reaching the Paris Agreement goals, low-emission technology development and diffusion, policy making and governance, as well as institutional aspects of adopting low-emission solutions.

First Edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival

The first edition of the #NewEuropeanBauhaus Festival took place from 9 to 12 June in Brussels, all across Europe and online. The festival brought many sectors together to bring the #EUGreenDeal to the forefront of our daily lives through a social and cultural dimension. Several of our CINEA projects from LIFE, Horizon 2020 and EMFF programmes participated in this first edition.

LIFE projects win at Natura 2000 Award

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Natura 2000 network, Commissioner Sinkevičius announced the winners of the 2022 edition of the Natura 2000 Awards. The winners include LIFE projects from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Spain and a cross-border project from Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland. More:

 
CINEA pledged to reduce staff and experts' travel emissions

In the context of the recently adopted Communication on Greening, CINEA has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by staff and experts' travel by 2024. By signing this pledge CINEA has received a 'green leaf', joining many other DGs and Agencies that are already on board.
