BURDI project at CEF Air Traffic Management event

Last week, CINEA witnessed the BURDI project’s first unmanned aircraft systems flight demonstration in the Port of Antwerp. The project is showing the value chain of the pre-U-space airspace management process. BURDI has been chosen as a Digital Sky Demonstrator under the first CEF Transport call to bring SESAR research outcomes (mostly under the Horizon programme) closer to industrialisation and deployment. SESAR 3 JU and CINEA work together on projects that demonstrate solutions in operational environments prior to full deployment. See also: X

EMFF Wavefarm project success story featuring in DG MARE Newsletter

Finnish enterprise AW-Energy has successfully developed WaveRoller, a technology that converts ocean wave energy to electricity. The machine operates in near-shore areas (approximately 0.3-2 km from the shore) at depths of between 8 and 20 meters. Depending on tidal conditions it is mostly or fully submerged and anchored to the seabed.

CINEA on stage at Road Transport Research conference #RTR2024

Over 70 Horizon Transport research projects took part in the annual flagship event for Road Transport Research results (RTR) held in Brussels on 5-7 February 2024. The event provided a forum for projects to engage with policymakers and share their ideas, methodologies, and results. CINEA was well represented with CINEA Director, Paloma Aba Garrote speaking at the opening session and other colleagues moderating many sessions or managing the joint EC stand.

CINEA has officially joined the EMAS family

CINEA has become officially EMAS certified! The certificate recognises the Agency as an active agent of the EMAS's environmental analysis, contributing also to broader sustainability goals. The conclusions of this analysis will be shared through a European Commission Environmental Statement, highlighting our environmental performance, policies, objectives, and improvement actions.

Technical development and use-case aspects of thermoacoustic heat pumps for existing houses

BlueHeart Energy (BHE) is a deep tech start-up and has developed a revolutionary thermoacoustic (TA) heat pump engine. This next generation of heat pump technology provides an alternative for vapour compression techniques and better meets the requirements of existing buildings that are not well met by today's technologies. BHE's TA engine will be supplied business to business to heat pump manufacturers in Europe and beyond.

Overview Article – Decarbonisation of buildings' heating systems with heat pump technologies: an overview of EU policies and projects

As the European Union strives to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, heat pumps have emerged as key players in decarbonising our buildings. These technologies exploit renewable energy sources, offering a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional heating systems. This article provides an overview on EU policies, financial instruments, and EU-funded projects to facilitate the adoption of heat pumps in buildings and to overcome the current barriers.
