Ocean models for seasonal to decadal regional climate impacts and feedbacks | Deadline: 22 February 2024

Successful proposals will contribute to the European Green Deal, addressing resilience to climate change (mitigation and adaptation) in coastal areas. Improved ocean models for 21st century climate projections, from regional to coastal scales, and from seasonal to decadal timeframes, will support the sustainability of the blue economy and the protection of ocean health and coastal landscapes.

 
Demonstration of sustainable wave energy farms | Deadline: 16 January 2024

The project is expected to deploy a wave energy farm with a minimum capacity of 2 MW and operate the farm at least 2 years in the lifetime of the project. After the project it is expected that the farm will continue to be operated for at least 8 years. The project should develop and execute an effective operation and maintenance programme.

 
European Prize for Women Innovators

For the 2023 – 2024 edition, the European Innovation Council and the European Institute for Innovation & Technology have teamed up to create a bigger and bolder European Prize for Women Innovators, with no fewer than 9 prizes to be awarded. These awards will be given to the most inspiring women entrepreneurs whose groundbreaking innovation is creating a positive impact for people and planet.

 
Demonstrations of innovative floating wind concepts

The transition of the energy system will rely on reducing the overall energy demand and making the energy supply side climate neutral, in current and future climate conditions. R&I actions will help to make the energy supply side cleaner, more secure, and competitive by boosting cost performance and reliability of a broad portfolio of renewable energy solutions, in line with societal needs and preferences. The overall aim is to accelerate the cost-effective construction and deployment of floating wind farms, facilitating their rapid and sustainable deployment across Europe and lower their overall costs.

 
Horizon Europe: EUR 64.6 million available for projects in sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply

Following the adoption of the Horizon Europe 2023-2024 work programme, the European Commission has launched a new call for project proposals to support research and innovation under efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use. This Destination includes activities targeting a sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply. This includes activities in the areas of renewable energy; energy system, grids and storage; as well as Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS)

 
Supporting the clean energy transition of European businesses

As highlighted in the Green Deal Industrial Plan, the achievement of climate-neutrality by 2050 will require a full mobilisation and deeper cooperation among all players operating across the different value chains of Europe’s net-zero industry. The overall objective of this topic is to support the clean energy transition and decarbonisation of businesses by strengthening national and regional ecosystems for energy management systems and energy audits and by fostering collaborative approaches between companies.

 
Innovation Fund: €100 million for innovative small-scale clean tech projects

European Commission has launched the third call for small-scale projects under the Innovation Fund with total budget of EUR 100 million. Deadline for proposal submissions: 19 September 2023, 17:00 (CEST) Areas of activity include: renewable energy, decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries, energy storage, and carbon capture, use and storage.

In the context of the call for expressions of interest, ports are intended to implement measures, including carbon-neutrality and circularity, incorporating renewable energy.
