Eurostars is a funding instrument that supports innovative SMEs and project partners (large companies, universities, research organisations and other types of organisations) by funding international collaborative R&D and innovation projects. By participating, organisations can access public funding for international collaborative R&D projects in all fields.

A new EUR 2.2 million call for proposals has opened to finance a pilot project on a demonstrator fishing vessel that will be retrofitted with alternative propulsion technologies and other solutions to improve energy performance, cut emissions and reduce underwater noise.
The objective of this call for proposals is to facilitate the implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in the EU, including through the effective application of Directive 2014/89 establishing a framework for MSP. This call is intended to fund projects developing innovative responses to tackle specific challenges that EU Members States might encounter when putting into effect, monitoring and/or revising their maritime spatial plans.

The selected proposals are expected to contribute to several critical outcomes, including the advancement of sustainable aquaculture systems in marine, transitional, and freshwater environments, aligning with EU strategies and sustainability goals. These outcomes involve implementing innovations to enhance aquaculture resilience to climate change, positioning European aquaculture as a global model for sustainability and competitiveness, reducing environmental impacts, and adopting technologically advanced practices.
Successful proposals will deliver a demonstrated set of measures to limit nitrogen (N) and phosphorus emissions (P) and re-balance N/P flows within safe ecological boundaries at regional and local scales to all given actors involved in N/P emissions in a given region, while promoting local and regional sustainability and circular economy schemes and comprehensive guidance on sustainable and circular practices.

The European Commission has launched a new call for proposals to support the energy transition in the fisheries sector. It is funded with EUR 2.2 million from EU Pilot Project Funds. The call is open from 20 February 2024 to 11 June 2024.
