Back Regional GDP in the central European countries

Regional GDP in the central European countries

The discussion of the future structural policy of the European Union requires the estimation of regional GDP (gross domestic product) per capita not only for the regions of the current EU Member States but also for the regions of the central European countries (CEC). Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and the Slovak Republic have applied for membership of the European Union. In this publication Eurostat presents for the first time comparable regional GDP per capita levels of the different regions in the CEC as well as their relative position in relation to the EU regions and to the EU average - this average being calculated not only for the current 15 Member States but also for a potential EU of 25 members. The year of reference is 1996 (for Bulgaria and Romania 1995 figures were taken).
