Primary data
Primary data is available for 2022, 2018, 2015, 2012, 2009, and 2006. It includes the following information:
- microdata: land cover, land use, and environmental parameters associated with the individual points surveyed
- point and landscape photos in the 4 cardinal directions
- soil data (not collected in every survey)
Soil data
The datasets for the LUCAS topsoil module are available from the European soil data centre (ESDAC).
The report LUCAS topsoil survey: Methodology, data and results provides detailed insights into the design and methodology of the 2009 data collection and laboratory analysis.
LUCAS Master Grid 2025
The LUCAS Master Grid 2025 is the geospatial reference framework used as the sampling frame for the LUCAS survey. It consists of a harmonised set of points from which survey samples are selected and supports the planning, organisation and stratification of LUCAS data collection. In addition to the point framework, the LUCAS Master Grid 2025 contains basic land cover information derived from photo-interpretation, including double photo-interpretation where applicable. These variables are included exclusively for sampling and quality support purposes. They are auxiliary in nature and should not be interpreted as field survey observations or as final validated LUCAS land cover data.
For a detailed description, please consult the LUCAS Master Grid 2025 Record Descriptor.

LUCAS Master Grid 2016
The LUCAS Master Grid 2016 is the geospatial reference framework used as the sampling frame for the 2022 LUCAS survey. It consists of a harmonised set of points from which the 2022 survey samples were selected and supported the planning, organisation and stratification of the LUCAS data collection. In addition to the point framework, the LUCAS Master Grid 2016 contains basic land cover information derived from photo-interpretation. These variables are included exclusively for sampling and quality support purposes. They are auxiliary in nature and should not be interpreted as final validated LUCAS land cover data. The LUCAS Master Grid 2016 differs from the 2025 version in its attributes, e.g. the version of the associated NUTS regions.
