In Italy we're still experiencing a clear-cut segregation between male and female jobs. This segregation is fed by the so-called 'gender stereotypes', i.e. all the prejudices and models linked to the family, the school, the working environment and the society at large. Actually, men are the breadwinners, whilst family care is almost exclusively the responsibility of women. This view (which starts from the family, crosses the school, and reaches the labour world) is 'fed' by bias
Solution
The areas of action are four:Transnational,Enterprise and Labour,Education and Training, Communication."Information desks" were set up in public and private companies aimed at circulating information about equality laws in the labour sector. Desks provides assistance and counseling, through innovative and specific services to women.In the enterprise and labour area particular attention was focused on diversity management.the school action is counseling, awareness-raising and education to interculturalism, aimed at the high schools.. About 2,500 students have met with Arcidonna operators. At the end of the actions, students were selected for the creation of the "Campus" group. It was a bet in the project. Its results were positive, both for the quality of the work done by the students, and for the degree of involvement they achieved. It began on June 15 and ended on June 30, 2008.
Products
It was created the "Non pensare a sesso unico.it" (Don't think with a one sex mind ) website.The school action provides the CD on "Instruments for gender educational planning". During the Campus using the tools :Photobook and Glossary of Equalitarian Democracy,the students product some spots and posters
Results
Involvment of sicilian girls and boys in acknowledgment on gender stereotypes mistake. Help and education of italian and immigrated women about their rights in work, business and family (in the deskpoints). Test on application of the "diversity management"(a new business management system that gives value to diversity of persons) in a sicilian industry,for the first time. Creation of a new educational tool(CD) for the teaching in the hight schools about gender and equal opportunity
