Recent updates to eDelivery conformance testing service and plans for 2025

The eDelivery conformance testing service continues to evolve, ensuring that AS4 solution providers can validate their implementations against the eDelivery AS4 profile. Recent updates include two patch versions that improve functionality and introduce conformance certificates. A major update planned for 2025 will further expand test coverage by adding more Profile Enhancements.

Recent updates

Two patches have enhanced the current version (2023.06) of the eDelivery Conformance Testing Service:

• Patch 2023.06-p1 (released in December 2024) added support for the X509PKIPathv1 Token Type and reinstated testing for the ENTSOG AS4 Usage Profile Rev 3.5, which was previously available on the legacy conformance testing platform.
• Patch 2023.06-p2 (released in February 2025), introduced conformance certificates, allowing solution providers to generate official validation documents for marketing or internal use. The update also restructured test specifications, making the testing process clearer and more structured.

Conformance certificates are a valuable asset for AS4 solution providers, offering official proof of conformance with the eDelivery AS4 Profile. These certificates can be used for marketing purposes or internal validation. Such a certificate is the front page of the conformance reports and AS4 solution providers can download it directly from the eDelivery conformance testing platform.

Current testing scope

The platform offered to eDelivery AS4 solution providers was introduced in 2023. It is powered by Interoperability Test Bed, running currently on version 1.25 of that European Commission's service.

In 2025, the eDelivery conformance testing service ensures that AS4 solutions meet interoperability and security requirements in line with the eDelivery AS4 profile 1.15. The current version (2023.06-p2) provides testing for:

• Common Profile
• Profile Enhancements:
  • Four Corner Topology
  • Standard Business Document Header (SBDH)
• ENTSOG AS4 Usage Profile Rev 3.5

Testing against the Profile Enhancements and the ENTSOG AS4 Usage Profile Rev 3.5 is optional, while passing the Common Profile tests remains mandatory to achieve eDelivery AS4 conformance.

Looking ahead: more Profile Enhancements & covering eDelivery 2.0

eDelivery is committed to providing a future-ready conformance testing platform. A new major version of the conformance service, planned for Q2 2025, will introduce support for three additional Profile Enhancements of the eDelivery AS4 1.15 profile:

• Pull Feature
• Dynamic Sender
• Dynamic Receiver

These additions will further expand the capabilities of eDelivery conformance testing, making it more adaptable to more use cases.

💡 Testing against Profile Enhancements remains optional—conformance with the eDelivery AS4 2.0 Profile is obtained by passing the Common Profile tests.

Next, expected in 2026, we will introduce test suites covering the eDelivery AS4 2.0 profile. On our roadmap there is also the strengthening of the testing of eDelivery AS4 Common Profile (end 2025) and the migration of SMP conformance testing to the same platform used by AS4 solution providers.

The recent and planned improvements to the eDelivery conformance testing service reflect the Building Block's ongoing commitment to providing robust and flexible testing tools for attesting that software built using the eDelivery specifications is conformant to those specifications and can be used for secure data exchange. We encourage AS4 solution providers to:

✔ Download a conformance certificate and reach out to us for signing to showcase compliance to customers and stakeholders.

✔ Stay informed about upcoming updates, including testing against the new Profile Enhancements planned for 2025.

eDelivery Building Block

eDelivery is a Building Block provided by the European Commission, offering technical specifications, installable software and services for secure digital data exchange across a network of nodes.

The eDelivery Conformance Testing Service allows testing software products and services against the eDelivery specifications. The technical specifications are translated into test assertions, which are the main unit for testing and reporting the conformance of an implementation. Based on the test assertions, test cases are derived and implemented on the test platform in the form of executable test scripts. An implementation can only pass the conformance testing process in case all mandatory test assertions have been successfully completed. The outcome of the test execution is documented in a test report which is published alongside the name of the product or service in the pages displaying the eDelivery conformant solutions (AS4 & SMP).
