Commissioner Dacian Cioloş visits Sweden

The framework for the future European farm policy must remain "common" because farmers compete in the EU Single Market, but there must remain flexibility to allow for the different specificities of agriculture in the different Member States and regions of the EU, according to EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Cioloș. Speaking to the media during his visit to Sweden (29/30 July 2010), he underlined that one of the priorities for the future is to maintain an agricultural presence and the diversity of agriculture in all regions.

Clôturant la conférence de synthèse du débat public sur l'avenir de la PAC, le 20 juillet, le Commissaire européen à l'agriculture et au développement rural, Dacian Cioloş a déclaré :

"Fort de vos points de vue, de vos idées et de la capacité d'analyse de mes services, je vais revenir en novembre avec une Communication de la Commission européenne sur l'avenir de la PAC. Pendant ces deux jours de conférence, une vision commune des grands défis de demain s’est dessinée. Nous devons maintenant apporter des réponses à sept défis majeurs : l'alimentation, l'ouverture sur le monde, l'environnement, la compétitivité, les territoires, la diversité et la simplicité. Nous devons respecter les équilibres naturels et rechercher, dans ce cadre, la performance économique.

"La PAC va apporter son expérience à la construction européenne et à la stratégie Europe 2020 ", déclare le Commissaire Cioloş

Le Commissaire européen à l'Agriculture et au Développement rural, Dacian Cioloş, a lancé deux jours de réflexion et d'échanges lors d'une conférence de synthèse du débat public sur l'avenir de la PAC lancé en avril dernier. Ouvrant la conférence organisée à Bruxelles, ce matin, le Commissaire Cioloş a déclaré :

"Les Européens ont pris le micro que nous leur avons offert. Ils l'ont saisi de manière active. Presque 6000 réponses ont été reçues. Je voulais que nous ayons un débat ouvert et transparent, un moment de vérité entre la PAC et les citoyens avant de revoir l'organisation de la PAC, être sûr que le socle est suffisamment consolidé pour soutenir cette construction.

Conference on CAP post-2013 to build on success of public debate

Roughly 600 delegates from all over the EU come to Brussels next Monday and Tuesday (19-20 July 2010) to discuss the future of the Common Agriculture policy after 2013. This Conference will seek to debate and draw some form of conclusions from the public debate on the post-2013 launched by the Commission in April, based on the four very fundamental questions of: "Why do we need a CAP? What do citizens expect from agriculture? Why reform the CAP? What tools do we need for the CAP of tomorrow?"

During his official visit to Finland on 14-15 of July 2010, Commissioner Dacian Cioloş had meetings with the representatives of the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners MTK and visited milk and beef production farms in Kontiolahti and Eno in the North Karelia region.

Commissioner Dacian Cioloș visited Berlin on July 1 & 2 and attended the Deutscher Bauerntag (German Farmers Congress). In his keynote speech to the farmers, the Commissioner underlined the importance of the public goods that farmers already provide which cannot be rewarded by the market.

Commissioner Cioloş in Austria: "Focus on quality and environmental protection"

Commissioner Dacian Cioloș made his first visit as Commissioner to Austria on June 30 and July 1 – the day that the new EU Organic logo entered into force. After an informal evening meal with Austria's Farm Minister Nikolaus Berlakovich on the Wednesday evening, there was a more formal bilateral meeting on the Thursday morning where the future of the CAP after 2013 was the main point for discussion.
