Inland ports improve transport and reduce emissions in the North Sea Region

Smart infrastructure set up in the DRYPORT project is ensuring efficient, sustainable freight transport in the North Sea Region. Two goods-forwarding ‘dryports’ inland of seaports in Sweden and the Netherlands have moved cargo off congested roads and onto rail and waterways. Partners from these countries and from Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom, have developed technology to share data for efficient customs and goods handling.

Cooperation and investment improves transport in the Nordic Logistic Corridor

Twin cooperation and investment projects aimed to improve cross-border links on the Nordic Logistic Corridor (NLC). This led to the intense work to secure the ferry link over Kvarken between Sweden and Finland, the weakest part along the E12 highway, closer integration of transport systems and establishment of short- and long-term goals aimed at making the NLC an economical, environmentally friendly and efficient transport route.

Capitalising on porcelain as cultural heritage pays off in central Portugal

The “Vista Alegre Heritage Museum” project has succeeded in stimulating tourism in the Portuguese municipality of Ílhavo by focusing on its porcelain production that dates back nearly 200 years. The wide-ranging reindustrialisation effort encompassing a slew of different sectors saved the Vista Alegre factory from ruin, maintained and created jobs and has put Ílhavo on the map as a cultural destination.

An abandoned quarry village on the north west Wales coast has been restored and expanded to become a thriving centre for Welsh culture. The Nant Gwrtheyrn centre, in the West Wales and Valleys region of the United Kingdom, now has modern facilities to teach the Welsh language, share local cultural and industrial heritage, and welcome tourists visiting the picturesque surrounding countryside.

A ticket to better training for Polish SMEs

Although EU funds for training have been made available to enterprises across Europe for some time, the regional authorities in Malopolska, Poland have identified a lack of uptake of training support funds by small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. In response, the EU-funded PFK project set out to find solutions to overcome the challenges enterprises faced when attempting to access these training funds, which benefit both the SMEs and their employees by improving skills across the board.
