Discover the new Cordis Results Pack on Research Infrastructures

From tackling climate change in the Arctic, to researching viruses and cancer, the Results Pack highlights the work of 13 Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funded projects. Through the support of research infrastructures, the projects are helping to advance scientific knowledge and technological progress supporting European society in facing current and future challenges.

 
Research Infrastructures Info Day recording and presentations

€337 million to fund new Research Infrastructures projects

New Research Infrastructures funding opportunities are available since 6 December 2023. The calls are open to researchers from Europe and beyond, wishing to access impact-oriented research laboratories, data resources, scientific instrumentation, and other technologies. Sustainable solutions for water management in India

63 million people in India do not have access to clean drinking water. The new Results Pack highlights the ground-breaking work carried out by seven successful projects funded under a pioneering collaboration between the European Union and India’s Department of Science and Technology and Department of Biotechnology. Learn about the funded projects INDIA-H2O, OAVITRA GANCA, PANI WATER, Saraswati 2.0, SPRING, LOTUS and PAVITR.

 
The EU funded NewTechAqua project contributes to healthy aquaculture

The World Fisheries Day reminds us of the importance to ensure sustainable stocks of fisheries. The project NewTechAqua managed by REA provides a cutting-edge training on fish nutrition and health and helps novel aquaculture solutions to reach the market. At the end of December, the project will validate technologically advanced, resilient and sustainable solutions to broaden and diversify production of finfish, molluscs and microalgae.

 
REA participated at the Food 2030 Conference

Four REA-managed projects took part in the Food 2030 conference to demonstrate their contribution to the sustainable food systems. REA's Head of Department for Green Europe, Paul Webb, also spoke about the role of research and innovation for achieving green and resilient food systems. 10 EU-funded projects managed by REA featured in the Food Village exhibition during the day conference.

 
On Olive Tree Day we celebrate projects protecting olive trees and the fruit they produce

Olive oil is a fundamental part of the Mediterranean diet. However, diseases, dangerous animal species and climate change are all posing growing threats to olive trees. EU-funded projects are working tirelessly to preserve olive oil, Europe’s golden liquid. One of these projects is the OliveFlyBacteria which protects olive trees from insects and pathogens or the GEN4OLIVE finding solutions for olive trees to become more resistant to environmental threats.

 
EU funded projects contributing to nature restoration

In November, a provisional agreement was reached between the European Parliament and the Council on the Nature Restoration Law. EU research and innovation projects play a significant role in reversing biodiversity loss and restoring nature. Examples of these projects focus on restoring wetlands (WaterLANDS), forests (Superb), coastal ecosystems (RESTCOAST) and freshwater-related ecosystems (MERLIN).

Horizon Europe to fund research in land, ocean and water for climate action

With an overall budget of €75 million, this call for proposals recognises the vital importance of land, oceans, and water in mitigating the effects of the climate change. Specific topics to be funded include: irrigation practices and technologies in agriculture, minimising CO2 emissions in peatlands, and ocean models for regional climate impacts. The deadline to apply for funding is 22 February 2024.

Look back at the selected projects for this year’s Cybersecurity month

This year’s Cyber Security Month is a good time to raise awareness about cyber threats and to learn new online tricks. The theme of this year’s was Social Engineering - a grey area covering phishing emails and impersonation scams. Examples of projects covering this are EITHOS, which is developing an Identity Theft Observatory system, and FERMI, which is creating a fake news mitigator.

Creating a safer space for children online

The increasing use of digital technology has led to more frequent crimes related to child sexual abuse. Offenders are using the internet to connect with minors and share child sexual abuse material online. On the European Day against Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation we looked at how EU-funded research can make a difference by creating innovative tools to help prevent child sexual exploitation, facilitate effective responses to such crimes.

 
High interest in the last Civil Security for Society call for funding!

247 project proposals were submitted for EU funding under the latest Horizon Europe Cluster 3 – Civil Security for Society call. The total budget available to fund the selected projects is €115.5 million. These proposals are now under evaluation by independent experts. EU Pavilion at FHC Shanghai presents irresistible EU agri-food

On 8-10 November, the EU promoted the safety, quality, authenticity and sustainability of European agri-food produce at the FHC Global Food Trade Show in Shanghai. The “Irresistible Europe. Countless combinations” Pavilion included workshops on Geographical Indications (GIs) and organic products, cooking shows, and tasting sessions featuring over 200 European products, giving participants a unique opportunity to learn about the close bonds between cultural heritage and local farming practices.
