EU Forum on the Protection of Public Spaces

On 4 June 2024, the European Commission DG HOME will convene another meeting of the EU Forum on the Protection of Public Spaces, as part of the implementation of the EU Action Plan for the Protection of Public Spaces, and of the 2020 Counter-Terrorism Agenda for the EU. The meeting brings together private operators, law enforcement, faith organizations and other relevant stakeholders to exchange information, best practices and lessons learned on the protection of public spaces from terrorist attacks within the EU.

In collaboration with the Bundesbau Baden-Württemberg –Kompetenzzentrum Materielle Sicherheit, Freiburg, Germany the publication ‘Security by Design: Protection of public spaces from terrorist attacks’ is now available in a German version. Update on JRC tool development to support the EU PSA initiative

In February 2024 the JRC provided an update on its tool development during a training session for EU PSA experts. During this training session in Brussels, EU PSA experts got a first-hand update on the status of JRC tool development in support of the initiative’s activities.

 
European Remembrance Day for Victims/survivors of Terrorism

Each year, the European Commission and the RAN Victims/survivors of Terrorism Working Group organise the ceremony to mark the European Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism. This day is devoted to commemorating all EU victims of terrorism worldwide and victims on EU soil. This year, the 20th edition of the European Remembrance Day for Victims of Terrorism will take place on 11 March 2024 in Madrid in the presence of Their Majesties the King and the Queen of Spain and the Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez.

 
Countering the threat of drones: Two new JRC handbooks published

As incidents involving drones have become more frequent inside and outside the EU, it is necessary to address the potential threat posed by their use for illegal, irregular or even malicious purposes. Two new JRC handbooks list thought-through approaches for countering such threats.

 
Workshop “Protection against hostile vehicle threats – what needs further research?”

On 18th September (14:30 – 16:30) the JRC will organize an online workshop on the “Current needs for research supporting the protection against hostile vehicle threat”. The objective of this workshop is to improve the JRC’s understanding of stakeholder needs, in particular from city and municipal authorities, so that we can tailor better our research projects. We will discuss the results of the survey we have done earlier this year and to which many of you have kindly responded.
