"The future of our oceans depends on strong, concerted global action. That is why last week the European Union launched an agenda for better international ocean governance – for oceans that are safe, secure, clean and sustainably managed. This week, I am bringing this message to our partners in China and Vietnam. We must work together to manage fisheries sustainably, stamp out illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, and keep our marine environment healthy. Together we can create the momentum that is crucial for ensuring food supply, a sustainable management of marine resources, and fair rules for all operators," Commissioner Vella said.

In Vietnam, he will meet Trinh Dinh Dung, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister  and Nguyen Xuan Cuong , Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

During his visit in China, the Commissioner will meet Mr Wang Hong, Director of the State Oceanic Administration, as well as key ministers of the Chinese government dealing with environmental matters.

Key issues to be discussed include illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and boosting blue growth and the maritime economy.
