Seeking better education and training for Blue Careers: Infoday on knowledge alliances and sector skills, Brussels 23 November 2015

The objective of the Sector Skills Alliances – launched by EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) under Erasmus+ programme - is to create European partnerships between industry, VET (Vocational Education and Training) institutes and regulatory bodies to define skill needs in a specific sector and to design and implement new curricula. This may be opportunity for better Blue Careers across EU. Participate in the Infoday on 23 November 2015 in Brussels to learn more (registration is now open).

Maritime industries across Europe suffer from a scarcity of people with the right qualifications, skills and experience. There is a clear mismatch between the knowledge and competences acquired throughout the educational path and those required on the job market. For this reason, closer cooperation between the industry and educational institutes is needed. Education and training curricula can become more responsive to labour market needs by integrating skills gap analysis and forecasts into the design of educational programmes and by involving industry early on. The Blue Careers call that DG MARE will launch next year will help key stakeholders at local level to make progress in this field and will help both businesses and educational institutes to work better together.
