Inter-institutional dialogue progressing on CFP reform proposal

Trialogues are under way between the European Parliament (EP), the Irish Presidency on behalf of the Council and the Commission, with a view to reaching agreement on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). Four meetings have taken place and four more are scheduled to follow, during April and May.

Trialogues are organised as part of the co-decision process in order to facilitate a compromise between the positions of the EP and the Council. They are key in bringing closer the positions of the institutions.

The first trialogues were used for a general appreciation of the proposal and exchange of views on the positions. In the upcoming meetings, the proposal will be reviewed again with the purpose to reach compromise agreements between the 'co-legislators', the EP and the Council. The Commission has a facilitating role. Trialogues are expected to pave the way for a political agreement before the end of the Irish Presidency.
