The Annual Economic Reports (AER) on the fishing fleet, aquaculture and fish processing sectors provide a comprehensive overview of the structure and economic performance of the EU fisheries sector and highlight key trends, based on data obtained from the latest DCF data calls, Eurostat and the EU fishing fleet register.
In the fall of 2012, the European Commission commissioned a study on the socio-economic dimensions in EU fisheries. The study, produced by MRAG, has now been finalised and examines the local processes of development and diversification and the role of fisheries in coastal communities through the collection of primary data at local level.
Earlier this year, the European Commission commissioned a counterfactual evaluation on permanent and temporary cessation measures in the European Fisheries Fund (EFF).

The European Commission and the EU Council of Ministers issued a joint statement at the October 2011 Agriculture and Fisheries Council on the need to effectively enforce the European salmon fishery. Following the announcement, the European Commission carried out an inspection programme in 2012 on salmon fisheries in the Baltic Sea.
