The meetings were well attended by all partner countries as well as by several Mediterranean Member States (Cyprus, France, Italy, Malta and Spain) and some relevant international and/or regional organisations (European Investment Bank, Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC)).
The main objective of the Regional Meeting was to:
- take stock of the progress of the IMP-MED project to date
- discuss further possible actions until its end date (November 2012), as well as activities which could be follow after the end of the contract
- present the suggestions of the feasibility study on Mediterranean Sea Maritime Development and Cooperation, jointly done by EIB, IMO and the European Commission; these provided additional ideas for cooperation initiatives and actions in the Mediterranean (e.g. the investment angle) both within and outside the IMP-MED project.
The Regional Meeting was followed by a Technical Workshop whose main aim was to further raise the awareness in the partner countries and deepen their knowledge of two additional topics falling within the Integrated Maritime Policy: marine and maritime research, as well as cruise, marine and maritime tourism.
