Launch event: CATCH – an EU database to facilitate the implementation of the catch certification scheme against Illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries

The catch certification scheme ensures that fishery products from third countries entering the EU market stem from legal sources. Catch certificates are required for each consignment of fishery products entering the EU territory. The European Commission has developed an IT tool to digitalise the current paper-based EU certification scheme against Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) catch. CATCH will support Member States in their IUU-related verification tasks, to reduce the risk of fraud and to facilitate trade flows.

Visitors can also experiment with our interactive web mapping application, The European Atlas of the Seas all day on May 8th. The Atlas hosts a wealth of information about Europe’s marine environment and related human activities, covering topics such as nature, tourism, security, energy, passenger transport, sea bottom, sea level rise, fish consumption, and much more. Visitors will be able to navigate through the web mapping application and create their own marine and coastal maps.
