Stakeholders from ports, cruise operators, local SMEs, catering sector and more will engage in a common effort to build a sustainable and competitive sector.
Europe accounts for about one third of global cruise shipping, and the sector is booming. It is the biggest maritime sector in terms of gross value added and employment, with capacity set to double over the coming years.
A sustainable business requires however a strong coordination with local stakeholders at port towns. For this, the European Commission has set up Regional Dialogues, to bring all parties involved in coastal tourism closer together, share views and find common solutions.
This edition, dedicated especially to the Atlantic, North Sea and Arctic, is the third in a series of regional dialogues, and follows the Mediterranean (Olbia, 2015) and the Baltic (Copenhagen, 2016).
There are still a few days to register and come to Nantes on 25 September. We encourage everyone involved in the sector to sign up. Because we consider it important to have as many different views as possible at the table. Because we care about a sustainable, competitive coastal tourism sector.
