New rules on consumer information: List of names of sub-areas and divisions for North-East Atlantic (FAO fishing areas 27) and Mediterranean and Black Sea (FAO fishing area 37)

date:  28/11/2014

Ahead of the application of the new rules on consumer information for fisheries and aquaculture products, the names of sub-areas and divisions for FAO fishing areas 27 (North-East Atlantic) and 37 (Mediterranean and Black Sea) are now available in all EU official languages on Fisheries website.

This reference document, compiled in consultation with Member States, is planned to support producers in the transition phase until the new rules on consumer information become applicable on 13 December 2014. It provides an easily accessible and comprehensive overview of the names of the sub-areas and divisions for the North-East Atlantic and the Mediterranean and Black Sea.

For fish caught in these two areas, Regulation 1379/2013 on the Common Organisation of the Markets requires that more detailed information be provided to the consumer as compared to fish caught elsewhere. Further information on the new rules on consumer information can be found on our FAQs page.
