Investment in maritime and coastal tourism is key to generating “blue growth” and jobs while at the same time ensuring sustainable development of Europe’s coastal regions.  European Maritime Day provides a unique opportunity for all concerned actors to discuss these challenges and focus on specific areas such as the cruise sector, connectivity and mobility, as well as Mediterranean Sea basin.

The event is organised by the European Commission (DG for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) in partnership with the Maltese Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, and the Maltese Ministry for Tourism. On May 21, the conference will host high-level key speakers:  Ms Maria Damanaki, European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries,  Maltese ministers Mr. Karmenu Vella, Minister for Tourism and Dr. Chris Cardona, Minister for Economy, Investment and Small Business, as well as other European ministers, personalities and maritime stakeholders . The second day, May 22 will be stakeholders' day and is organised around 19 workshops ranging from specific tourism areas such as nautical tourism to regional development strategies,  innovative research and solutions to problems such as oil pollution.  Exhibition booths will showcase innovative initiatives demonstrating the range of possibilities that the seas and oceans can offer.
