The launch of the High Level Platform on sustainable energy investments in Africa will take place at the Africa Investment Forum (7-9 November) in Johannesburg on 8 November 2018. The session will gather high-level European and African public and private sector representatives to exchange views and information on how to boost sustainable energy investments in Africa. This EU-Africa joint initiative is part of the "Energise Africa" strategy, presented in an EU Communication on 4 May 2017 in the run-up to the AU-EU Summit in Abidjan in November 2017 and is in line with the recently launched EU External Investment Plan (EIP) and Africa's Agenda 2063.

The Fifth Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) Annual Conference will be hosted by the World Bank on the topic of sustainable infrastructure. Infrastructure includes water supply and sanitation, flood protection, roads and transport, and energy and telecommunications. Infrastructure has major implications at the household level (health, education and social mobility), the business level (productivity, industrial development), and the global level (climate change, energy, forests, biodiversity and pollution). Ensuring affordable and reliable access to infrastructure remains a major challenge in developing countries, but one that is further complicated by both a changing climate and changing climate policies.
This year’s Green Growth and Sustainable Development (GGSD) Forum will focus on investment, innovation and employment aspects of the fast-growing ocean-based industries, together with policies to protect and sustainably use marine and ocean resources and ecosystems. It will explore how economic development and conservation needs can be balanced successfully through innovations in established and emerging ocean industries, as well as marine spatial planning instruments.

The 17th Meeting of the Parties (MOP) of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) will serve to consolidate the strengthening of CBFP governance initiated under the EU Facilitation, adopt a set of medium term priorities (2018-2022) for the Partnership, consider proposals for annual CBFP priorities and take stock of coordination and harmonization of efforts to promote the Congo Basin’s forest ecosystems. It will provide a framework for promoting broader and fruitful dialogue between partners.

Significant developments relevant to the SWITCH to Green initiative have occurred over the last 12 months, among others the organisation of joint activities with the SWITCH partners, including a first coordination meeting in September 2016 with key project counterparts. The meeting created momentum to join efforts and generated ideas for further networking and dialogue. The 2017 meeting planned on 10 October is a follow up of this previous event.
