Commission moves to strengthen research integrity

The EU's Horizon 2020 research funding programme has now a more specific set of rules on research integrity to be followed by beneficiaries. This is thanks to the new provisions in the Horizon 2020 Model Grant Agreement.

 
European Innovation Council Call for Ideas: what was said, and where we could go from here

From 16 February to 29 April 2016, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation ran a call for ideas to gather stakeholders' views on disruptive, market-creating innovation, gaps in the current innovation support landscape, and the potential remit of a European Innovation Council (EIC). A total of 1022 replies and 183 supporting documents and position papers were received.

Outcome of the referendum in the United Kingdom

The Statement of 29 June of the Heads of State or Government of 27 Member States, as well as the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, confirms that until the UK leaves the EU, EU law continues to apply to and within the UK, both when it comes to rights and obligations. This includes the eligibility of UK legal entities to participate and receive funding in Horizon 2020 actions.

European Union joins Mission Innovation, a global initiative on clean energy

The European Union has joined Mission Innovation, a global initiative on clean energy, at its inaugural ministerial meeting in San Francisco on 1-2 June. This initiative was launched at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2015 (COP21) in Paris with the aim of reinvigorating and accelerating public and private global clean energy innovation.

 
Mobile Age project: making senior citizens benefit from open government data

On 1 February 2016, ten European partners launched the Mobile Age project. Aiming to develop inclusive mobile access to public services using open government data, Mobile Age targets a group of citizens that are usually marginalised when it comes to technical innovations but which is rapidly growing in number and expectations: European senior citizens.

 
Horizon 2020 Monitoring Report 2014

For Horizon 2020, the Commission has a legal obligation to monitor continually and systematically its implementation, to report annually and to disseminate the results of this monitoring. The first Annual Monitoring Report under Horizon 2020 is a comprehensive publication encompassing the analysis of Horizon 2020 through its calls closed in 2014

“Brain Prize” awarded to scientists who have made "an outstanding contribution to European neuroscience"

The “Brain Prize” is awarded to scientists who have made "an outstanding contribution to European neuroscience". The 2016 winners are Tim Bliss, Graham Collingridge and Richard Morris. Their research has focused on a brain mechanism known as ‘Long-Term Potentiation’ (LTP), which underpins the life-long plasticity of the brain. Their discoveries have revolutionised our understanding of how memories are formed, retained and lost.

 
Calling food and manufacturing innovators: countdown begins to the launch of new EIT innovation hubs

Today, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is offering innovators from business, higher education and research the chance to join the expanding EIT Community. The EIT is launching the 2016 Call for new Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) for the creation of two new KICs: EIT Food and EIT Manufacturing, to add to the five already up and running in the areas of climate, digital, energy, health and raw materials innovation.
