New projects

My-AHA | An ICT platform for healthy ageing

My-AHA (my Active and Healthy Ageing) project aims to reduce frailty risk by improving physical activity and cognitive function, psychological state, social resources, nutrition, sleep and overall well-being.

A more accurate imaging probe for cancer surgery

EU-funded project PRISAR is developing a hybrid probe that doctors can use to more precisely target cancerous tumours in image-guided surgery and during post-operative radiotherapy treatment. The project aims to improve treatments for cancer patients and save more lives.

Driving up the appeal of hybrid vehicles

EU-funded project ECOCHAMPS aims to make hybrid vehicles more attractive to buyers by developing ways to improve their performance and lower prices - increasing Europe's competitiveness in the market.

ICT4Life: ICT services for Life Improvement for the Elderly

ICT4Life is a three-year project co-financed under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, that kicked off earlier this year with the ambition to provide new services for integrated care employing user-friendly ICT tools, ultimately increasing patients with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other dementias and their caregivers’ quality of life and autonomy at home.

Innovative electric ferries for greener water transport

A cleaner, more efficient ferry is on the horizon. A prototype mid-range 100 % electric vessel developed by an EU-funded project is set to cut transport pollution and operational costs. The ferry will be powered by wind-sourced electricity and will carry the largest battery pack ever installed. Tests are due to begin in summer 2017.

SME helps electric cars go the distance

If you are thinking of buying an electric vehicle, one consideration is how far you can go before recharging. An EU-funded project is developing a modular power system for long journeys with fewer stops, encouraging wider use of electric cars. Trials begin in summer 2016.

A wider circle for European polar research

The polar regions are often seen as a barometer for the health of the global environment, and understanding how changes in this area affect Europe and the world had become essential. An alliance of 22 research institutes has therefore set out to enhance the integration of European capabilities for polar research and maximise the benefits to society.

Cancer test would pinpoint high-risk women

An EU-funded project is developing a single genetic test that would indicate an individual woman's risk of developing breast, cervical, womb or ovarian cancer - potentially saving lives.

Tumor instability and impact on patient survival: it all depends on the immune response

Genetic and molecular characteristics are often used to classify tumors because stratification is the first step towards individualized cancer medicine with the aim to find the optimal treatment for each patient. APERIM project now could prove that the immunologic environment in and around colorectal cancer even plays a greater role to stratify tumors than classification based on tumor (in)stability.

i-PROGNOSIS project builds early detection test of Parkinsons’ Disease

Parkinson's Disease is a progressive disease of the nervous system which affects around 6.3 million people worldwide, most of them aged 55 and over. Symptoms appear gradually and slowly get worse, making it difficult to diagnose. Today there is still no specific test for the condition and treatment options only help to manage symptoms. This is why the project consortium has joined forces to build early detection test and design innovative interventions using the potential of new technologies.

Putting smart public transport technology to the test

An EU-funded project is testing intelligent, energy-efficient and passenger-friendly bus service innovations designed to bring benefits to both commuters and public authorities across 12 cities in Europe. The most effective solutions are expected to create new market opportunities for cutting-edge technology in public transport.

Research collaboration key to communicating importance of oceans

The Respon-SEA-ble project aims to help raise awareness of our individual and collective responsibility towards maintaining healthy oceans through better targeted communication. A change in behaviour will help to reduce man’s impact on marine ecosystems and open up new opportunities to explore the ocean's potential.

New project to propose new organization models in elderly care

The goal of the DECI project is to design and demonstrate the value of feasible interventions on business models in elderly care, enabled by ICTs, to be scaled across National Healthcare Systems. DECI will propose ways to strengthen traditional care organization models, through the support of digital tools targeted for elderly with Cognitive Impairments, based of innovative technologies, information sharing, data interoperability and replicable logics.
