The European Commission published the first results of the European Monitor of Industrial Ecosystems (EMI) project to assess the implementation of the green and digital transition within each industrial ecosystem. The project analyses the EU’s industrial sustainable competitiveness by measuring supply and demand of skills, investments and funding, and technology development and adoption. The first industrial ecosystem reports are now available on the European Monitor of Industrial Ecosystems website.

The European Commission has introduced the European Monitor of Industrial Ecosystems (EMI) project to assess the implementation of the green and digital transition within each industrial ecosystem. The project analyses EU’s industrial sustainable competitiveness by measuring supply and demand of skills, investments and funding, and technology development and adoption. To do that, data is gathered by a mix of traditional and novel data sources, such as LinkedIn and Crunchbase.

In this way, the project will provide key information on the state of play of the green and digital transition not only at industrial ecosystem-level, but also at Member State level, at EU-wide level, and vis-a-vis other major economies like the United States and China.

The novelty of the data generated by the project has made it an integral part of this year’s Annual Single Market and Competitiveness Report, enriching it with industrial ecosystem-specific data and concrete examples of how the adoption of advanced  technologies is supporting the twin transition.

The project also includes a Technology Centre Mapping tool, which currently allows industrial stakeholders – especially SMEs – explore the services offered by nearly 400 technology centers across Europe. Technology Centres are public or private organisations that help SMEs adopt new technologies or develop new technology-based products, reducing the time-to-market for innovative solutions.

The first industrial ecosystem reports published as part of the project are now available on the European Monitor of Industrial Ecosystems website, and further reports will be made public soon.
