Digital SME or startup? Join the Digital Innovation Challenge
date: 14/02/2020
Companies based in the EU, Iceland or Norway can present a concept for a service or solution that could be integrated into their business offer. The proposed concept must be based on one or more of the open and reusable information technology solutions provided by the European Commission.
The winning firms stand to win €50,000 (first place), €20,000 (second place) and €10,000 (third place).
The challenge is particularly targeted at digital small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups that would like to accelerate their digitally-enabled growth, and leverage on already existing components to facilitate the delivery of digital, interoperable, cross-border and cross-domain services and solutions.
Participants should develop concepts that can:
- reinforce their service offering by using standards-based solutions
- facilitate cross-border operations and tap into pan-European markets
- reach a higher level of security, interoperability and compliance of the services and solutions offered
The closing date for applications is 28 February 2020, 12.00 (CET).

Background
In the context of the digital single market, and with the Commission’s support, public administrations across the EU have adopted open and reusable solutions to create generic digital public administration components that make it possible for them to provide better services to citizens and businesses.
Because small busineses play such an important role in the European economy, the challenge takes the opportunity to leverage these components to give SMEs and startups across Europe the chance to take the lead towards making a ‘digital Europe’.
