Pre-publication of the Draft Work Programme 2018-2020 of Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 5

The raw materials part under Work Programme 2018-2020 of Horizon 2020-Societal Challenge 5 presents five topics, with a total budget of near 240 million euro for the three-year period:

  • CE-SC5-06-2018: New technologies for the enhanced recovery of by-products (Research and Innovation action)
  • CE-SC5-07-2018-2019-2020: Raw materials innovation for the circular economy: sustainable processing, reuse, recycling and recovery schemes (Innovation action)
  • CE-SC5-08-2018-2019-2020: Raw materials policy support actions for the circular economy (Coordination and Support Action)
  • SC5-09-2018-2019: New solutions for the sustainable production of raw materials (Research and Innovation action)
  • SC5-10-2019-2020: Raw materials innovation actions: exploration and Earth observation in support of sustainable mining (Innovation action)

The first three topics contribute to the focus area 'Connecting economic and environmental gains - the circular economy' with a total budget of 116 million euro, and in turn to the implementation of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan.

The actions on raw materials are expected to contribute to the implementation of the Raw Materials policy, the Strategic Implementation Plan of the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials, the Circular Economy package and the Blue Growth Strategy. The actions complement and are in synergy with those of the Knowledge and Innovation Community on Raw materials of the European Institute of Technology (EIT).

Additionally, there is a contribution of 21.6 million euro to the calls of SME instrument and 4.4 million euro to Fast-track to Innovation.
