Mr Petschke, born 1962, has a background in law and a long experience of the European Institutions.
He joined the Commission in 1995 where he dealt essentially with Trade and Internal Market matters, and spent the last five years as Head of the Commission Representation in Germany.

"After five thrilling years in Berlin as a member of DG Communication, I am glad that in my new job in Brussels I am part of this fascinating project." declared Mr Petschke.
"Galileo is great, for many reasons: the services it will offer for the benefit of citizens and industry, the contribution it will make to competitiveness - c'est du concret, on ne parle pas de compétitivité, on agit!
I am looking forward to working with an enthusiastic and experienced team at Directorate H, as a part of DG Enterprise and Industry!"

"I am grateful for the work done in the interim period by Paul Flament and Paul Weissenberg, and for the availability of colleagues briefing me", he added.

Together with the Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, the Galileo team would like to express its best wishes of success to Mr Petschke in his new challenge.
